FESTIVE COCKTAILS: MAKE MORE WITH MERMAID THIS CHRISTMAS
Whether you’ve been given a bottle of Mermaid Gin this Christmas, purchased your own or even bought one for a friend that you ended up gifting yourself, take the time to craft a much-deserved cocktail or two over the festive period. We’ve collected a few of our favourite, easy to make, home-style cocktails ideal for indulging in at this time of year.
French 75
An elegant and bubbly classic, the French 75 has a little extra ‘wow’ factor and is a fabulous alternative to see in the new year with. Not to mention it packs a punch, which is why it’s believed to have been named after a WWI weapon! We’re crushing on Della Vite prosecco right now as the perfect accompaniment, as not only is it vegan but every bottle is produced using renewable energy. You’ll need:
- 50ml Mermaid Gin
- 10ml Lemon Juice
- 5ml Sugar Syrup or Honey
- Top up with Della Vite Prosecco
Prepare yourself to shake it up, as you’ll need a cocktail shaker and strainer to get this party started. First, add all the ingredients (except the prosecco, trust us!) into the shaker and add plenty of ice, this will help prevent too much dilution and chill down the liquid. Now make sure the top is on tight, and shake vigorously, in a back and forward motion for around 20 seconds. Strain into a champagne flute and top up with prosecco, finishing with a twist of lemon.
Mermaid & Spice Hot-tail
As the depths of winter are creeping in, warmers are needed! Big coats, plush scarfs and fleece-lined boots are a must-have and you can complete the vibe with a seasonal hot-tail. With a few choice spices, you can easily craft your own mulled drinks, experimenting as you go. To get you started we’ve partnered with our good friends at bottlegreen, choosing their Winter Spiced Berry cordial as a fruity infusion, perfect for both hot and cold drinks. You’ll need:
- 25/50ml Mermaid Gin
- 50ml bottlegreen Winter Spiced Berry Cordial
- Top up with Hot water
- Cinnamon Sticks
Start by boiling the kettle and adding your desired measure of Mermaid Gin and spiced berry cordial into a heat-proof glass. Top up with hot water and add a cinnamon stick. Finish by garnishing with a twist of orange rind, being sure to twist tightly over the glass to realise the oils, and take a sip once the liquid has cooled.
Rhubarb Collins
Created by fellow nature lovers Feel Good, the Rhubarb Collins is a spritz like no other, using cinnamon spice and sparkling water infused with gorgeous natural fruit flavours. Feel Good not only use plastic-free packaging but give back 3% of their profits to charities that support the wellbeing of people and the planet, a brand after our own hearts. You’ll need:
- 50ml Mermaid Gin
- 20ml Lemon Juice
- 10ml Cinnamon Syrup
- Top with Feel Good Rhubarb & Apple
First, you’ll need to make your cinnamon syrup, which is simple to do and won’t take long at all. Take 2 parts of demerara sugar, to one part water in a saucepan. Heat until boiling, and then take it down to a simmer. Add a couple of broken up cinnamon sticks and leave on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. You’ll then need to allow the syrup to cool and then strain into a clean bottle. This syrup will last for around a month if kept in the fridge.
To craft your Rhubarb Collins, start by building the Mermaid Gin, lemon juice and cinnamon syrup into a tumbler with ice. Crack open a can of rhubarb & apple Feel Good and top up, finishing with a fresh mint garnish.
